Health Insurance

If you require urgent medical attention the public health system may just patch you up and send you back to your GP, but what if the attention you need is specialised? What if you need to skip the typical long waiting times to receive essential treatment you need and you need it now?

Health insurance NZ (or medical insurance NZ) could provide you with the access to medical care that the public health system can’t provide. Not all health insurance plans and companies provide the same coverage. For example, they have different levels of cover for Non Pharmac drugs. Health Insurance should be a simple product. In exchange for a premium, an insurer agrees to take on some of your risks. The insurer should explain what’s covered and what’s not in the clearest possible manner. Unfortunately, medical insurance is far from simple.

We are here to provide a high-level summary of some of the key providers and their plans to help you understand the features and benefits you can choose from.

The following information is provided as a guide with which to compare quality Health Insurance providers available in NZ. Here we identify similarities and subtle unique differences specific to each insurance provider, as per their policy wording, giving you the opportunity to tell us why this provider is right for you.

Note, when you take out medical insurance, your insurer relies on information you provide to calculate your premiums and the terms of your cover. You have a duty to disclose material facts that would influence the judgement of a prudent insurer. Material facts may relate to your age, your medical history, and whether you smoke/vape or not.
